Bert Walter Conger, 96, Payette, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Holy Rosary Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Parkview Cemetery, New Plymouth. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

Bert was born Dec. 6, 1905 in Newport, Neb., the son of Alex and Maude Conger.

He grew up on the family farm in Nebraska.

He moved to Idaho in 1924 and worked as a mechanic and later spraying in the Logan Bowman Orchards.

He then started working for the Moss family cannery, which later became American Fine Foods.

Bert retired after 30 years with the cannery in 1972.

He is survived by his sons, Alex Conger, Eagle, and Richard Conger, Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Wayne Conger, New Plymouth; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
