Ethelyn received her degree in education from the University of Idaho, Southern Branch in Pocatello, and was a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Boise. She married Lynus C. Fairchild on Oct. 2, 1938, in Blackfoot, Idaho.

After living in numerous places on the West Coast, they moved to New Plymouth in 1952. She was proud of her 28-year career as primary nurse for Dr. George Davis in New Plymouth. She was actively involved in the New Plymouth First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She once wrote, "It's been such a wonderful life. I married the one man I loved, had three healthy, ambitious and pleasant kids. I was permitted to work in a profession I loved. Having a twin was a bonus few people get. Because of my parents, I know morals and the good life are based on following the Bible."

Ethelyn is survived by two sons, James B. (Anne) Fairchild, Dallas, Ore., and John C. Fairchild, Big Lake, Alaska; a daughter, Suzan Turley, King City, Ore.; six grandchildren, Pam Fairchild (Ted Lamb), Portland, Gwen Fairchild, Germany, Ronda (Randy) Miller, Aloha, Ore., Stephanie (Matt) Brown, Nampa, Jennifer Dawn (Don) Keese, Anchorage, Alaska, and Kristie (Gene) Stockton, Kenai, Alaska; and 10 great-grandchildren.
