V. Glen Kofoed, 90, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Holy Rosary Medical Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at the Fruitland L.D.S. Chapel on Pennsylvania Avenue. There will be a viewing from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, at the Ontario Haren-Wood Funeral Home and again from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Fruitland L.D.S. Chapel. Internment will follow at the Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth.
Glen was born on Oct. 9, 1916, in Weston, Idaho, to James W. and Mary Jane Bell Kofoed. When he was a young child his family moved to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. He grew up there on the family farm and graduated from high school where he was involved in music, athletics and drama.
He met his high school sweetheart, Verla Woodbury, there. They were married on Oct. 28, 1937, in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple. Glen and Verla lived in Lava for seven years where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1944, they moved with their family to Wilder, where he worked for an orchardist. Following his dream, they purchased a farm and home in New Plymouth in December 1950. He milked cows and later raised black angus cattle as well as being a monorail operator, for 26 years, at the Boise Cascade Saw Mill in Emmett. When he retired, they moved to Fruitland in 1979 where he still resided at the time of his death.
He enjoyed animals, gardening and yard work, but his family was his first love. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions of responsibility and leadership through out his life. He will always be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit and his willingness to serve. Rest in peace, dad. You are our hero.
Glen is survived by his sweetheart of 70 years, Verla; his nine children, Leola (Max) Gardner, Fruitland, LaMarr (Daleen) Kofoed, Middleton, Marianne (Lary) Walker, Weiser, Karla (Steve) Brandau, Atlanta, Ga., Treva (Steve) Hahn, Fruitland, Kay Kofoed, Fruitland, Connie (Bob) Umphrey, Weiser, Terrel (Lisa) Kofoed, American Fork, Utah, Chris (Fionnuala) Kofoed, Eagle Mountain, Utah; his 52 grandchildren; 133 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Rex (Betty) Kofoed, Rupert, Idaho; one sister, Twila Smith, Pocatello, Idaho; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; six sisters; and two grandaughters, Kolette Kofoed and Laree Umphrey.
