PAYETTE - Services for Fred J. Nichols, 53, of Hood River and formerly of Payette, were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Shaffer-Jensen Chapel in New Plymouth by the Rev. Earl Traughber of New Plymouth Congregational Church. Interment was in Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth.

Nichols, who died of natural causes, Wednesday, was born Aug 16, 1926 in Payette to Fred and Rose Ella Nichols. He attended schools in Payette until 1940, when his family moved to New Plymouth. He graduated from New Plymouth High School in 1944. He married Hazel Mae Boehm on Nov. 14, 1951, in Winnemucca, Nev. He graduated from the College of Idaho with a business degree and completed his graduate work at the University of Idaho and Central Washington University. He taught high school for 19 years and was currently teaching at the Wy'east Junior High School in Odell, Oregon. He was a member of the National Education Association and the Oregon Education Association.

Surviving are his wife of Hood River; a son, Dwight Lee of Hood River; a daughter, Loretta Elaine of White Salmon, Wash.; a sister, Geneva Auker of Fruitland; and several nieces and nephews.
