Payette Pioneer Buried Tuesday

Funeral services were held on Tuesday of this week for Carl Frederick Asmussen 82, pioneer resident of this community who passed away at his home last Saturday evening.

Deceased was born in Suderfield, Germany, April 10, 1866 and was married to Catherine Paulson in New York in 1903. Mrs. Asmussen passed away two years ago.

Mr. Asmussen was of the sturdy type, coming to Payette when a lad of fifteen years of age and at that time could not speak English at all. He made his home in 1883 with a sister, the late Mrs. August Jacobsen, who was living here at the time that he arrived from his Fatherland. He helped to pioneer this section and helped to a considerable degree in its development, having spent two years assisting in laying the tracks of the Union Pacific railroad. During his 68 years residence in this county he followed farming.

Deceased is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Lucille Asmussen of Wendell; Mrs. Marguerite Newman, of Payette and three sons, Ernest E. Asmussen, Harry N. Asmussen and Lester C. Asmussen, all of Payette and eleven grandchildren.

Mr. Asmussen was a member of the Lutheran church of this city.
