Henry D. Bartenhagen Dies At Local Home

Henry D. Bartenhagen passed away at his residence in this city on Friday, July 24 following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held on Tuesday under the direction of the Peterson-Foster Funeral home.

Henry Dietrich Bartenhagen was born July 20, 1861 in Hanover, Germany. He came to New York with his parents at the age of 4 years. From there he moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran church at the age of 14. From Sheboygan he moved to Merrill, Wisconsin, together with his parents. Here he was married to Matilda Kniess on Oct. 22, 1892. Ten children were born to this union, four of which preceded Mr. Bartenhagen in death. In 1907he moved to Boise, Idaho with his family. And in the year 1912 moved to Payette where he was a resident for the remaining 30 years.

Mr. Bartenhagen is survived by his devoted wife, four sons and two daughters. William Bartenhagen of Sheridan, Wyoming; Henry Bartenhagen of San Francisco, Calif.; Carl Bartenhagen of Pine, Idaho; Edward Bartenhagen of Willowbrook, Calif.; Mrs. Marie Williams of Willowbrook, Calif.; Mrs. Hattie Sereduk of Boise and three sisters: Mrs. Lena Ruether, Mrs. Augusta Shultz and Mrs. Katie Pophal all of Merrill, Wis., and Mrs. Maggie Lodholtz of Wausau,Wis. Eleven grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Deceased was 78 years of age.
