Pioneer Resident Buried Monday

"Nick" Broderson, 81, Passes Away Saturday in Portland Hospital

C.F. Broderson, pioneer resident of Idaho and Payette county, passed away on Saturday last at a Portland hospital following an illness of several weeks duration. Funeral services were held in Payette on Monday morning of this week.

"Nick" Broderson as he was known to friends in this section, for many years was engaged in the sheep business until 1918 when he engaged in the fruit business and was known as one of the larger prune growers in the state.

During his residence in Germany he served in the Kaiser’s Guard which was composed of the cream of the German military forces.

Claus Frederick Broderson was born in Germany Dec. 19, 1859. He served in the German Imperial army under Wilhelm I from 1879 to 1882, and immediately afterwards came to the United States and Payette, where he has since made his home. Payette at that time was known as Boomerang. He was married to Agnes Creutz in Payette in 1896, after she had crossed the ocean for that purpose.

Funeral services were held at the family home on Third avenue north Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock with Peterson-Foster Mortuary in charge. Interment was in Riverside cemetery beside his wife, who died in 1932, and a son, Karl, who died in 1930. The survivors are three daughters, Mrs. V.B. Ledman, Los Angeles; Mrs. Walter Toevs, Spokane ; Mrs. Fred Marineau, Portland ; two sons, Rudolf and Herman, both of Payette, and two brothers, August of Weiser and Henry, who is in Germany. He was here in Payette with his brother from 1890 until 1902, and has many friends in this section. There are three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Suhr, Mrs. Minna Peterson and Mrs. Mary Thompson, who all reside in Germany.
