Hazel Claire Cockerum, 73, Payette, died July 12, 1991, in a Boise hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Payette First Baptist Church. The Rev. Harvey Booth of Cedar Hills, will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Payette, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

She was born Oct. 8, 1917, at Payette, a daughter of Guy L. and Cora Carrico Cockerum. She was reared and attended schools in Payette. After graduating from high school, she attended Western Baptist Theological Seminary in Portland. She later moved to Parma and worked for a bank. She then returned to Payette and worked as a nurse and receptionist for Drs. Clark, Kaiser, Kotus and Carroll for several years. Later she received her B.A. degree in education at the University of Idaho. In 1957, she started teaching first grade in Payette. At the end of her teaching career, she taught special education. Hazel retired in 1979, and had since resided in Payette.

She was a longtime member of the Payette First Baptist Church where she worked for many years as secretary, teacher and deaconess. She was also a member of the Lorraine Chapter #20, Order of Eastern Star, in Payette and since 1979 was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Hazel always put others ahead of herself, and never knew anyone she didn't love. Her greatest loves were her church and her family.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Alma Lee Alexander and Mrs. Gerre Cain, both of Payette, and Mrs. Dorothy J. Payne and her husband, Roy of Moscow; two brothers and their wives, Bill B. and June Cockerum of Boise, and Dick C. and Carol Cockerum of New Plymouth; two sisters-in-law, Ora Cockerum and Emma Cockerum, both of Payette, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Guy and Forrest; also twin sisters and two brothers, Dwight and Bobby in infancy.

Memorials may be made to the Payette First Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association, in care of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, 83661 or flowers may be sent.
