Former Resident Buried Here

Herman Edward Cornelsen, 78, former resident of this city, died Thursday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Hutton of Long Beach, Washington, after a long illness. Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at St. John’s Evangelical church with the Rev. Albert Beutenmueller officiating. Arrangements were made by the Landon Funeral home.

Herman Edward Cornelsen, son of Edward and Kathryn Cornelsen, was born March 24, 1863 in Pellwaam, Germany. He came to Clinton, Iowa in 1881. On February 27, 1889 he was married to Anna Hoss. The couple moved to Manning, Iowa in 1896 and to Payette in January 1902 where he was engaged in farming until he retired four years ago. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Cornelson had the opportunity of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and four sons and leaves to mourn his death his wife, Anna and six daughters, Mrs. Hans Vogt, New Plymouth, Mrs. O.L. Blayden, Payette, Mrs. Karl Asmussen, LaCenter, Washington, Mrs. Munda Johnson, Portland, Mrs. Robert Hutton and Mrs. Edward Holtz, both of Long Beach, Wash. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
