Anton Diederichsen Passes Thursday
Anton Diederichsen, 79, long time nursery man of this city dies at a local hospital last Thursday afternoon following only a short illness.
Mr. Diederichsen was born in Preitz, Germany on October 7, 1869 and came to the Payette area directly from Germany 56 years ago.
He was married at Sauk City, Wis. In 1906 and his wife Millie preceded him in death in 1921.
While in Germany he served an apprenticeship as a nurseryman amd followed that occupation continuously after his arrival here until he retired a few years ago.
Last Spring he fell down the basement stairs at his home and broke one of his hips. He was confined in the hospital for some time and then fully recovered from that accident so that he was able to be up and around again.
He then became ill the first of last week and was in the hospital only a few days before death came.
He is survived by a son Henry of payette; two daughters Mrs. Leona Anderson, Payette and Mrs. Henrietta Fennemore?, Portland, Ore., a sister Mrs. Emile Hansen, Payette and five grandchildren.
He was a life long member of the Lutheran church.
His nursery was on the farm now operated by his son Henry on "Dutch Lane" East of this city. During his many years at the business, he became recognized as one of the outstanding nurserymen of the country. He developed both the umbrella and flowering locust trees and sold them it was reported in every part of the United States and in several foreign countries.
Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon at the Shaffer Memory Chapel with the Rev. A.F. Lienkaemper in charge. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
