Earl Eugene Dorathy, 92, of Fresno, Calif., formerly of Payette, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, April 4, 2008, after living a full and active life. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Services will conclude at the chapel. Funeral services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

Earl was born on the Fourth of July, 1915, in Payette, to Warren E. Dorathy and Mayme Ann Dorathy. As a young man, Earl owned several businesses in Idaho, where he met and married Birdie Farson, his wife for 61 years. At the beginning of World War II, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he worked for Southwest Airlines, teaching Army Cadets how to fly. A year later, they moved to Santa Monica, Calif., to work for Douglas Aircraft as a test pilot for the remainder of the war. After the war, he remained in Southern California, where he became a building contractor. Years later, he became a real estate broker in Chino, Calif., before moving to Modesto, Calif., in 1969, continuing his real estate business.

Earl retired in 1980 and spent his time traveling, visiting family and friends and fishing. He enjoyed helping family and friends on home improvement projects by lending his various construction skills.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie, and is survived by two sons, Warren Dorathy, Fresno, Calif., and Van Dorathy, Plains, Mont.; five grandchildren, Bill Dorathy, Boise, Idaho, Lorie Holman, Lake Elsinore, Calif., Sheri Dorathy, Plains, Mont., and Keri Miller, Sitka, Alaska; and four great-grandchildren, Anna Holman, Will Holman, Raegan Miller and Wyatt Miller.
