Early Settler Dies After Brief Illness
Mrs. Matilda Edwards died at her home on North 5th street, February 5, at noon. Mrs. Edwards, whose maiden name was Matilda Wommack was 75 years old, being born in Missouri in 1860. With her parents, she came to Emmett in 1870 and married Mr. Edwards in 1876 at Emmett. The moved to Payette in 1887 and her husband passed away in 1903. She was a member of the Church of Christ for the past 31 years.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. O. Mays of Boise and Mrs. O. L. Jones of Los Angeles, Calif., and four sons, H. A. Edwards of Payette and Alvin Edwards of Payette; Jarvis Edwards of Salem, Oregon; and Elza I. Edwards of Los Angeles.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Landon Funeral Home with Rev. J. Raymond Fite officiating.
The Edwards family built the house that the Landon Funeral parlors now occupy, 40 years ago. At that time, the entire block, including the corner where the Christian church is was an orchard.
