Samuel D. Genoway

Samuel D. Genoway, 92, Payette, died Jan. 17, 1992, in a Payette nursing home. Services were 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Payette. The Rev. Earl Traughber of the Fruitland church of the Brethren, officiated. Private committal services followed at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

He was born Sept. 20, 1899, at Aurora, Neb., a son of Cyrus and Phoebe Genoway. He moved with his family to Payette in 1905. As a young man, he attended school in Payette and worked in the logging industry and at Idaho Canning. HE assisted his mother with her small greenhouse business until her death in 1930. In 1933 he married Mildred Thornton in Payette, and side by side they continued to operate and expand the greenhouse and florist business until their retirement in 1975. He was an avid bowler and, as a young man, an amateur boxer and referee. He was a life member of Florist Telegraph Deliver (FTD); a member of Payette Garden Club for many years; a supporter of civic and educational activities; and a member of the Payette Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Dick Cooke of West Linn; a daughter, Sonia Ault of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren, Vivianne Larkin, Suzie Holtz, David Cooke, Shauna Vanderhoof, Heather Ault, and Kymberley Ault; two great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus and Phoebe Genoway, four brothers and three sisters.
