Services for Simon "Sam" Hoiland, 76, Payette, who died Sunday in a Payette nursing home, were conducted today at the Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Payette, with Rev. Allen Hull of the First Baptist Church in Payette officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery, Payette.
He was born March 31, 1908, at Richland Township, Iowa, the son of Jens and Tilda Hoiland. He married Della Spicer in April 23, 1937 at Howard, S.D. They lived at Madison, S. D., then Portland, Grangeville, Idaho and McCall, Idaho, before moving to Payette in 1962. He was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Hoiland of Payette; three daughters, Janis Alm of Grangeville, Margaret Strong of Fruitland and Carol Phillips of Mountain Home, Idaho; one brother, Arthur of Priest River, Idaho; a sister, Thersa Larson of Canton, S. D.; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jalmer and George.
