Herman Kohl was born May 11, 1924, in Tilden, Neb., and died Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Idaho VA Hospital.

Herman went to school through the 10th grade in Oakdale, Neb. He then worked for the railroad for two years, entered the U.S. Army, served with the Fifth Army and was a prisoner of war during WWII for 14 months. He was divorced from Darlene Martens and married Opal Ziegenbein and moved to Ontario, Ore. in 1962, where he resided.

Herman was a member of American Legion Post 67, VFW, DAV and the POW. He loved fishing, watching westerns and football and listening to country music.

He is survived by three daughters and son-in-laws, Bonnie and Raymond Moreland, Baton Rouge, La., Jeanette and Herb Overstreet, Macon, Ga., Patricia and Charles Donner, Grand Island, Neb.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal (Ziegenbein) Kohl; and four brothers, Daniel, Woodrow, Alfred and Edwin.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Riverside Cemetery in Payette, Idaho.
