Don was born Oct. 18, 1949, to the late Fred and Elsie Lawrence in Chadron, Neb. He graduated from Illinois Valley High School in 1967. He attended Treasure Valley Community College and received his degree in law enforcement, where he met his wife, Cathy Newton, and they were married on Oct. 18, 1969.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served his country with pride and honor for 22 years. He was decorated with many medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons. After retiring from the Army in 1992, he returned to Ontario and worked for Woodgrain Millwork, Inc., in Fruitland, Idaho, until 1998. He then returned to Treasure Valley Community College and received his second degree in drafting and worked independent jobs until he retired for good in 2002.

Don was a very private person, but, to those who knew him, he was kind, thoughtful, supportive and always willing to help family and friends in any way he could. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, coaching his kids’ baseball and soccer teams when they were young and loved being with his family. He was passionate about his love of golf and could be found on the Ontario Golf Course anytime the weather allowed.

Don was greatly loved and will be missed by his four children, Tammie, and son-in-law, Chris Bower, of Fruitland, Idaho, Tim, and daughter-in-law, Carrie Lawrence, of Bremerton, Wash., Tricia Lawrence, of Ontario, Ore., and Todd Lawrence, of Ontario, Ore. He was proud to be called grandpa by Hope, Nolan, Connor and Sydney. He also leaves behind two brothers, Merl Lawrence, of Springfield, Ore., and Dennis Lawrence, of Bedford, Texas, and numerous other family members.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy, and his parents, Fred and Elsie Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you play a round of golf in his memory or donate to your favorite charity, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
