Our dear mother was born Nellie Opal Kenward, daughter and seventh child of Ira Westbrook Kenward and Olive Graham Kenward, on March 21, 1912, at Payette, Idaho. Mother was an active member of Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho, and reached out to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone with whom she came into contact. Mother was devoted to saving the lives of unborn children with her many letters to government officials and her newspaper column "Bryant Says." She had a brilliant mind, a loving heart, and a gift for writing in the form of poetry and prose to share her insights, thoughts, and inspiration. Many people tell the family they are living happier lives because they were touched by this lovely lady, an angel on earth.
Nellie graduated with distinction from Albertson College of Idaho in 1936 and was currently enjoying the Half-Century Club. In 1937, Nellie married Harry C. Logan and began her lifetime career as mother, teacher, and caregiver to others. In 1967 mother achieved a Masters Degree in Literary Science from the University of Idaho. In 1970 mother achieved her second Masters Degree in Library Science from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. During mother's professional career, she served as librarian during the founding years of Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon, and as librarian at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Oregon until her retirement in 1980, when she moved back to Idaho to be closer to family. In recent years, mother especially enjoyed serving as correspondent for her Payette High School Class of 1930.
Mother was preceded in death by Harry C. Logan, her loving husband and pal of 47 years who passed away in 1983, and her young son Thomas Daniel Logan who passed away in 1958. In 1989 Mother subsequently married her longtime friend Albert Thurlow Bryant of Caldwell, Idaho, with whom she shared a delightful companionship until he passed away in 1992.
Nellie K. Bryant is survived by six children, fifteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren: John C. Logan (and wife Zora G. Logan) of Boise, Idaho, and grandson Andrew J. Logan; James D. Logan (and wife Jean M. Logan) of Pullman, Washington, and grandchildren Scott A. Logan, Jeff L. Logan, Jennifer B. Logan, Samuel H. Logan, Stephanie M. Logan, Dennis G. Logan, and Diana L. Logan; Charles I. Logan (and wife Diane Atkinson) of Boise, Idaho, and granddaughter Astrid Nance; Susan E. Ghattas (and husband Suhail E. Ghattas) of Chicago, Illinois, and grandchildren Denice E. Lemons, Matthew H. Lemons, and Katherine S. Messner; Sarah C. Gilbert of Donnelly, Idaho, granddaughter Pamela K. Ashburn (and husband James V. Ashburn), and great-grandchildren James V. Ashburn and Matthias S. Ashburn; and Belinda H. Wymer of Lincoln City, Oregon, grandchildren David A. Wymer and Jonathan M. Wymer, and great-grandchildren Mariya J. Wymer, Jacob T. Wymer, and Elizabeth G. Wymer.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, staff, and management of the following medical care facilities for their excellent and loving care and support during mother's heart surgery, recovery process, and the final days of her life: St. Luke's Hospital, Elks Rehabilitation Hospital, Autumn Wind Assisted Living Center, and West Valley Medical Center.
Thank you, dear mother, for bringing us into this world and teaching us to live with reverence in the grace of God.
