Opal Marguerite Stegner McBride, 93, of Salem, formerly of the Oregon Slope area, passed away Tuesday, June 22, at a Salem hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bible Baptist Church, Payette.

Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

Opal was born on March 18, 1906 at Fruitland, Idaho, to Eugene and Jean C. Stegner. She received her education in Fruitland, graduating from Fruitland High School. She lived in Fruitland until 1927 when she married Samuel P. McBride on March 20. She lived her entire life in the Snake River Valley until moving to Salem in June of 1996.

She was a 4-H leader, taught Sunday school and cooked at Bible camps associated with the American Missionary Fellowship.

She retired from being a cook on Pioneer Elementary, Ontario.

Survivors include four daughters; Eunice (Mrs. Al Guerrant) of Ontario; Helen (Mrs. Lee McNinch) of Colville, Wash.; Pamela McBride of Salem and Mary (Mrs. Mike Pinkerton) of Salem; 11 grandchildren, Bob Guerrant of The Dalles; Marcella Guerrant-Mather of Weiser; Sam Guerrant of Weiser; Susan McNinch-Alexander of Colville, Wash.; Virginia McNinch-Rajala of Lamont, Wash.; Carol McNinch of Papua, New Guinea; Frances McNinch of Ontario; Betsy McNinch-Heatherman of Springdale, Wash.; Peter McNinch of Colville, Wash.; Deborah Pinkerton and Rachel Pinkerton, Salem; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy (Buster) Stegner of Prineville; one sister-in-law, Marge McBride of Vale; nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam on August 8, 1975; one sister, Myrtle Carter; one brother, Carl Stegner; and four grandchildren, Ray, Nelda Jo, Alan and Marguerite Guerrant.
