Molly Ramona O’Cana Ortega

Molly Ramona O’Cana Ortega was the second born to Eloy and Gregorita O’Caña on April 3, 1939, in La Garita, Colo., where she attended grade school with her only sibling, a sister, Alicia O’Caña Atencio.
She later moved to Del Norte, Colo., where she attended high school. She then went to Denver to work as a nanny. Molly came back to Del Norte and met the love of her life, Raymond Gregory Ortega. They were married Aug. 31, 1957, in Del Norte. Soon after, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz.
That following spring, Molly and Raymond made their lifelong home in Payette, Idaho. Molly and Raymond continued their journey together, having four beautiful daughters, Marvine, Debbie, Brenda and Terri.
In 1966, Molly and her family moved to Seattle, where her husband worked for Boeing Aircraft. They then moved to Lancaster, Calif., where Raymond worked at Lockheed. In Lancaster, she completed courses for her diploma, graduating from Antelope Valley High School in 1974.
In 1976, Molly and Raymond moved their family back to Payette, where she had a 20-year career with K-Mart until she retired in 1998.
Molly enjoyed the outdoors, always tending to her garden and beautiful flowers. Molly and Raymond loved to travel, especially visiting many states on motorcycle. Molly loved to take trips to Jackpot, Nev., and Pendleton, Ore., to lose a few nickels. She was a great cook and baker, always surprising her family with delicious dishes.
She loved her husband; daughters; seven grandchildren, Leslie Ortega, Johnny Martinez, Kandi Castro, Raymond Ortega II, Jason Ortega, Syndey Day and Taylor Day; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Miami and Dakota Gonzales and Frankie Castro.
On June 23, 2007, Molly and Raymond again walked down the aisle together to renew their vows in marriage at the same church they were married in 50 years ago, Holy Name of Mary Church in Del Norte, Colo.
Molly is survived by her husband, Raymond Gregory Ortega; her only sister, Alicia O’caña Atencio; daughters, Marvine Ortega, Debbie Martinez and Ricardo Vazquez, Payette, Idaho, Brenda and Lonnie Thompson, Nampa, Idaho, Terri and LaMar Day, Cambridge, Idaho; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Molly is preceded in death by her parents, Eloy and Gregorita O’Caña; Laddie and Mary Ortega; and a special granddaughter, her Angel Sydney Cheyne Day.
Anyone you ask about Molly would tell you that Molly deeply touched their lives and that she was the most beautiful soul they ever met. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ontario, Ore. Funeral services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Payette, Idaho. A dinner will conclude at Blessed Sacrament. Mortuary services by Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Payette.
