Payette - Ralph Wendelin Oster, 63, Payette, an orchardist, died June 21, 1992, in an Ontario hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory chapel Payette, with Dr. Leonard Reifel, Pastor Emeritus of St. John's United Church, Payette, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Payette.

He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Payette, the son of Wendelin "Vinnie" and Ester Schock Oster. He was raised and educated in Payette graduating with the class of 1946 from Payette High School. He married Carol Judd whom he later divorced, two children were born to this union. On June 15, 1972, he married June Sims Broadus in Payette and adopted and helped raise her three children. He began working on the orchard at the age of five and has lived and worked on the farm all his life except for the time he served in Germany during the Korean War with the United States Army. He farmed with his father until Vinnie's retirement in 1979 and then farmed with his son Doug until the time of his death. He was a member of B.P.O.E. #1690 Ontario, the Farm Bureau and St. John's United Church of Christ, Payette. Ralph enjoyed teasing people and playing jokes, fishing and hunting, his dog "Jake", motorcycling in his early years, writing poetry, however, the love of his life was the orchard. He was very proud of his orchard and loved to work with it.

Survivors in addition to his wife, June Oster of Paytte, include five children, Karen Oster and Peggy Fenicottero, both of Boise, Debbie Castleberry of Idaho Falls, and Doug Oster and Denease Huffaker, both of Payette; a brother, Donald K. Oster of Boise; four grandchildren, Jerry and Cheri Cuolo and Cari and Katrina Fenicottero, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew.
