Graveside services for Sherman L. Pobst, 90, of McAllen, Texas, and formerly of Payette, who died July 31, 1985, in a McAllen nursing home were held Monday at Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Washoe Masonic Lodge No 28, AF & AM, Payette officiated under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen chapel, Payette.

Mr. Pobst, a retired Department of Agriculture marketing specialist, was born April 13, 1895, in Baker county, Ore., son of Leonidas and Mary Ann Pobst. In 1916 he moved to Payette where he engaged in fruit farming. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War I. He later moved to Washington D.C. where he was a secretary for U.S. Representative Compton I. White. He then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a marketing and surplus crop specialist. Following his retirement Mr. Pobst moved to Mission, Texas, where he operated a grapefruit orchard. He was a 65 year member of Washoe Lodge, No. 28, serving as worshipful master in 1924. He was a 62 year member of Payette Chapter No. 8, Royal Arch Masons and had been excellent high priest of that order. He was also a charter member and past commander of John Webster Rhoades Post No. 33, American Legion.

Survivors include a sister, Mary W. Maule of Payette and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Payette; or to Washoe Masonic Lodge No. 28, Payette.
