MRS. JANET SHEARER
Janet Land was born February 9, 1850 at Jersey, Shotts, near Glasgow, Scotland. She was married to James Shearer, May 20, 1870 and sailed for America May 24, coming first to Quebec, Canada and the following fall moved to Frankfort, Kansas, where they located on a homestead and lived until 1900 when they moved to Payette and located on a farm where she resided until her death, May 26, 1937. Her husband, James Shearer, preceded her in death in 1904.
To Mr. and Mrs. Shearer were born nine children, three who died in infancy and three, James M. Shearer, Hugh R. Shearer and Jeannette L. Carico died in later years and were buried at Payette. The three surviving children are Mrs. Myrtle Moggridge of Payette, Alfred J. Shearer of Caldwell, Idaho and Mrs. May M. Robertson of Seattle, Washington. Eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren also survive.
Her decline in health started in 1933, although during the past two years she had enjoyed visiting friends and attending neighborhood gatherings and the A.W. L. club of which she had been a member for several years.
When a girl she became a member of the Presbyterian church and later in Kansas she united with the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member until her death.
Rev. S. Dallas McNeil will preach the sermon for the funeral at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at two o’clock. Interment will be in the Riverside cemetery beside her husband.
