Rose Solterbeck, 107, a homemaker, formerly of Payette, died Nov. 14, 1997 in an Oregon care center. Services were 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Shaffer-Jensen Memory chapel, with Pastor Bill Slabaugh of Payette First Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery, Payette.
Rose was born at Reinbeck, Iowa, Jan. 8, 1890, to Bernard and Anna Strohbehn. As a young girl she moved to Idaho with her family, and was raised and educated in Payette. Graduating in 1913, from the University of Idaho, she was the first person to receive a Bachelors Degree in Music. She married Henry Solterbeck Sept. 18, 1918 and they made their home in Payette, where she taught music and played for silent movies at the local theater. Henry passed away in 1966 and in 1979, Rose moved to Oregon and resided there until her death.
Rose was a charter member of the St. John's United Church of Christ and played the piano and organ at church for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Minger of West Linn, Ore. and Dorothy Owens of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Jack Solterbeck of Keizer, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; infant twin sons, Mark and Maurice; a son, Ward; four sisters, and one brother.
