Bernhard Strohbehn

Payette (Special) - Bernhard Strohbehn, 90, a former businessman and civic leader, died at his home on River street early Sunday. Mr. Strohbehn was one of the founders of the St. John's Evangelical church, was president and a director of the old First National bank for many years and was a member of the school board for several years.

Bernhard Hans Ludwig Strohbehn was born December 23, 1847, near Kiel, Schleswig, Germany, where he was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church. At the age of 17 he came to the United States, first to Davenport, Ia., where he was married to Miss Christine Meeves in 1875. From there they moved to Goldfield and then to Reinbeck, Ia., and then in 1901 they moved to their home here. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Daisy Creswell of Emmett, Mrs. Clara Albert and Mrs. Anna Plaen, both of Reinbeck Ia., and Mrs. Rose Solterbeck and Mrs. Louise Solterbeck, both of Payette; one son, Edward of New Plymouth; a sister, Mrs. Emma Rickert, a brother, August, both of Reinbeck, Ia., 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Two daughters, Auguste and Nora, died in childhood.

Funeral services are being directed by Landon's and will be held Wednesday morning at the St. John's Evangelical church with the Rev. Albert Beutenmueller officiating. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery in Payette.
