PAYETTE - Herbert James Taylor, 73, Payette, a retired carpenter, died April 30, 1998, at home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery, Payette with Pastor Earl Traughber officiating, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette
Herbert was born February 15, 1925, in Couch, Missouri, to Herbert and Thyra Taylor. He moved with his family from Miller, Missouri to Payette in 1934. They then moved to the Crystal area and back to Payette, where he lived until entering the Army in 1943 to 1945. While serving, he received the Purple Heart. December 8, 1945, he married Dorothy M. Duffy in Boston, Massachusetts. Together they returned to Payette and in 1947 moved to the place on Washoe Road.
Herb was a carpenter and worked for local contractors in the area until going out on his own. He retired in 1987. He was a loving son, brother and father who was truly loved by his family.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald and Michael, both of Payette; four brothers, Hubert and his wife, Dorothy, of Spokane, Washington, J. D. of Vancouver, Washington, twin brothers, Roy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Troy of Vancouver; two sisters, Darlene Dolan of Spokane and Mary Belvoir of Kent, Washington and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one daughter.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.
