Elvin (Cole) Thornburg

Services for Elvin (Cole) Thornburg, 70, former Oregon Slope farmer who died Wednesday in Desert Hot springs, Calif., were held Monday in the Shaffer-Jensen Memory chapel in Payette.

The Rev. Jim Mummert of the First Christian church officiated. Interment was at Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Thornburg was born February 18, 1898, in Kansas. He moved to Oregon as a young man and married Jessie May McIntire at La Grande, Ore., June 14, 1921. They lived in the Enterprise, Ore., area for several years and moved to Oregon Slope community in about 1940. He farmed in the area for about 22 years. Mrs. Thornburg died in 1957. He had lived at Desert Hot Springs for the past six years. He is a member of the HyLine club.

Survivors include a son, Elvin J. Thornburg of Desert Hot Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Bell of Westminister, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Dillon of Cosmopolis, Wash.; and Mrs. Etna Ganser of Watsonville, Calif.
