R.C. "Dick" Whiting

R.C. "Dick" Whiting, 61, Payette, died July 13, 1991, in an Ontario hospital. Services were 10 a.m. today at the Bible Baptist Church, Payette. Pastor Bruce Penn officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory chapel, Payette.

He was born Oct. 1, 1929, at Weiser, a son of Orlin and Elverna Whiting. He was raised in Weiser and graduated from Weiser High School in the class of 1957. He married Betty Jean Breckenridge in 1949 at Weiser, she passed away in 1967.

As a young man, he started Culligan Soft Water Co, in Weiser, and moved the company to Payette in 1950. He owned Whiting Real Estate and Culligan Soft Water Co. of Payette. He married Sheila Thomas on Feb. 1, 1974, at Payette.

He was a member of the Payette-Washington County Board of Realtors, and had served as a past director and president. He was a founding member of the board of directors of Payette Industrial Corp.; served as a member and on the board of the Payette Chamber of Commerce; was honored as Payette County Realtor of the Year in 1980, and was a senior residential appraiser. Dick was active in Payette's Apple Blossom Parade for a number of years.

He was a member of Payette's Bible Baptist Church, and through the years served in numerous director and board positions there. He had attended the Malheur Butte Baptist Church for the last 1 1/2 years. He was a member of Gideons International, and served on local and state boards.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Whiting of Payette; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and John Lawrence of Boise; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Liz Whiting of Portland; a son, 1st Lt Kelly Whiting of Stellacoom, Wash.; a brother, Stanford B. Whiting of Weiser; a sister, Yvonne Stephens of Weiser, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Dick's casket remained closed at his funeral service.
