Payette - John Ludwig Ashton, 45, Payette, died unexpectedly at home Aug. 22, 1996. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Payette. Vault interment and dedication of the grave will follow at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Payette.

John, our beloved brother, son, uncle and friends to all was born July 5, 1951, in Ontario, the third child of Dr. Willard Hart Ashton and Blanche Ludwig Ashton.

From a very young age, John possessed a unique and special talent for winning the hearts of others. He attended Special Education classes in the Payette School District where he made many life-long friends. His capacity to show love and concern was endless.

John was an avid and enthusiastic sports fan, honored with a lifetime athletic pass from Payette High School. He seldom missed a game and considered Payette Pirates to be his heroes. He received recognition for his participation in the Special Olympics in bowling and basketball.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully as the official greeter for Sunday services in the Payette Second Ward for many years.

He loved his birthday celebrations and many other activities with his family. His memory will be engraved upon the hearts of all who knew him.

Survivors include his dear mother, Blanche, two brothers, Wayne (Debbie) of Fruitland and Ralph (Lillian) of Payette; one sister, Janet Janke (Lane) from Salt Lake City, Utah. He had a great interest in his numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles and cousins and his best friend Charlie Broderson of Vernon, Canada, all of whom loved him and will miss him. He was preceded in death by his loving father, Dr. Willard H. Ashton and one nephew, Ryan Ashton.

He will be remembered for his firm handshake, big smile, tender heart, love of chocolate and hamburgers, and friends games of checkers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made through the First Security Bank, P.O. Box 640, Payette, ID 83661 to the John L. Ashton Memorial Fund for the Payette High School Athletic Department.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Payette, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
