Russell Irving DeShazer
Services for Russell Irving DeShazer, 59, Ontario, who died Thursday Feb. 24, 1983, in an Ontario hospital, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Ontario by Pastor John Baker. Interment will follow at the Rosedale Cemetery in Payette, under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Funeral Directors of Payette.
He was born Nov. 18, 1923 at Lewellen, Neb., the son of Roy and Mabel DeShazer. The family moved to Payette in 1937 where he graduated from high school. In September of 1940, he entered the Army and served until October of 1941. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the South Pacific until his discharge in February of 1946. He married Mary Sharp on Oct. 18, 1946, at Payette. They lived near Pullman, Wash., for one year and returned to Payette. In 1955, he became the manager of West Wind Orchard, working there for 21 years. For the past six years, he had been employed by Growers Supply of Fruitland. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ontario First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Ontario; one son, David of Bellevue, Wash.; a daughter, Rosemary Smith of Ontario; his mother, Mabel DeShazer of Payette; three sisters, Roberts Price of Wenatchee, Wash., Mildred Smith of Coos Bay, Wash., Maxine Sams of Eastside, Ore.; two brothers, Lester and Vern DeShazer of McMinnville, Ore.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at the Shaffer-Jensen Chapel, Payette, from 5 until 9 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
