Maudie Miriam Gehrke, 92, Payette, passed away April 9, 2000, at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette, with the Rev. Dean Grafft officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette.

Maudie was born on March 12, 1909, in Virgil, S.D., to H. David and Cleo Coursey. She attended schools in South Dakota and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1927. She attended Normal school and taught grades one through eighth in a one-room schoolhouse in South Dakota.

She married Edmund F. Gehrke on March 7, 1931, in Webster, S.D. They came to Payette in 1934, and she resided there until her death. She managed the S&H Green Stamp Stores in Payette, Ontario and Astoria, Ore., for many years. She retired when the stores were closed. She belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ, and to many clubs and organizations including Eastern Star, G.G.S. Club, Syringa Club, St. John's Guild, the Payette Senior Citizens and was guardian of Job's Daughters.

Survivors include her children, Joeda (Jan) Roberts of Payette, Lloyd Gehrke of Walla Walla, Wash., and Karma Gehrke of Laguna Hills, Calif., eight grandchildren, George Reilly, Michael Reilly, Colleen Reilly and her husband, Til, Rick Roberts and his wife, Melissa, Page Gehrke, Vance Gehrke, Brook Smith and Tiffany McGrath and her husband, Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Misty Wilkison, Lars Wilkison and Sophie McGrath; one great-grandson, Justis Neal; two sisters, Vivian Moyer and Adele Gillette; one brother, Clifford Coursey; many nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in -law, Mae Gehrke, of Payette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents; and a special daughter-in-law, Patsy Gehrke.

Maudie loved to travel and to spend time with her many friends and her family. She will always be loved and missed by us all.
