Linda Kay Hammer two and and a half months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin D. Hammer who live near Payette, died early Monday morning at the Payette Valley Memorial hospital from burns suffered a few hours earlier when her crib was partly destroyed by fire.

The fire started from a short circuit in a damaged electric clock, catching winow curtains, burning a mattress on a large bed and moving to the baby's crib, Fire Chief Glenn Levers reported.

Hammer said that the electric clock had been dropped previously and apparently was damaged thereby causing the short circut.

The infant and a ten year old sister were home alone when the fire started which was not discovered until about 11:50 Sunday night when the rest of the family arrived home. The baby was carried from her crib by a brother, and the Shaffer ambulance summoned.

The Payette Volunteer Fire department arrived at the scene in time to check the fire which caused very little damage to the home, Levers said.

Linda Kay Hammer was born May 12, 1950 at Paytte, Idaho and died July 31. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin D. Hammer, three brothers, Roderick M., William L., Dennis D.; two sisters, Patricia Ann and Marilyn Sue, all of Payette. Also surviving are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hammer of Payette and Mr. and Mrs. Wilford N. Ward of Rexburg.

Services were held at the L. D. S. church, Payette ward, at 3 p. m. Wednesday with Bishop Leonard Pease conducting.
