PAYETTE - Arnold Wright "Bum" Mason, 75, Payette, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1987, in an Ontario hospital. Services were conducted at 2 p.m.. Saturday at the Payette Chapel of the Roses, the Rev. Robert Hefty of the Payette First United Methodist Church officiated. Ritualistic rites were by BPOE Lodge #1690, Ontario, with burial in Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette.

He was born April 30, 1911, at Alexander, Idaho, a son of John Lee and Melissa Mason. He was reared and educated in McCammon. He went to work for Union Pacific in 1937 at Minidoka, Idaho. He married Pearl Miller on Nov. 19, 1937, at Pocatello. They moved to Payette in 1949, where they had since resided. He retired from Union Pacific in September of 1975 after 18 years of service. He was a member of the United Transportation Union; and BPOE Lodge #1690, Ontario.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl of Payette; two sons, Arnie Mason and Jeffery Mason, both of Pocatello; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sandra Lee) Clayton, Boring, Ore.; and Mrs. Otto (Julie Ann) McIntosh, San Diego; two brothers, Loyal Mason, Boise; and Larven Mason, Las Vegas, Nev.; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bendixsen, Soda Springs; Mrs. Thelma Lee, Rigby; Mrs. Stella Phelps, Las Vegas; Mrs. Ed (Phyllis) Johnson, Portland; and Mrs. Gloria Myers, Bountiful, Utah; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents, two brothers, and a sister died earlier.
