Canning. This industry is still young in Idaho. The largest processing plants, canning chiefly corn and peas, are in Payette and Wilder. The five dehydrating plants of the Hogue Co. ship most of their apples and prunes to Europe. Two small tomato plants operate in Weiser and Gooding. Kimberly has a dehydrating plant for prunes; Post Palls has a cannery for various items. There are fourteen meat packing plants in the State, but no export of this product.
Dairy. Other dairy products include casein plants in Burley, Paris, and Rexburg. There are powdered-milk plants in Meridian, Caldwell, Payette, Jerome, Buhl, Preston. The licensed creameries in the State in 1935 were thirty-six, producing 22,382,724 pounds of butter. There were thirty-three ice cream plants in 1933. About 30,000,000 pounds of butter are now exported annually. There are condensed-milk plants in Nampa and Buhl.
Vinegar. A company in Payette manufactures about 175,000 gallons of vinegar and cider from apples annually. Most of this is shipped to Middle Western States.
