Fruitgrower, Edward Mess Dies at Boise

A Fruitland farmer and fruitgrower, Edward Mess, 66, died at a Boise hospital following a long illness. He served as a Payette county commissioner for 14 years.

Mr. Mess was born Dec. 22, 1894 at Chapman, Neb., and married (Marie) Frazier on May 23, 1922 at Archer, Neb. The couple came to the Fruitland community from Chapman in 1925. Mr. Mess was a member of the Baptist church and was past master of Washoe Lodge No. 28 AF & AM. He was worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge No. 20, a member of the El Korah Shrine, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Boise, and the American Legion. Surviving in addition to his wife, Mrs. Marie Mess of Fruitland, are a son, Marvin Mess of Fruitland; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Oft of Nyssa and Mrs. Barbara Fredricksen of Richland, Wn.; a brother, Fred Mess of Brooklyn, Wis.; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Clark of Santa Ana, Calif., Mrs. Gusta Baird of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Lizzie Rice of St. Libory, Neb., Mrs. Mabel Croisant of Tillamook, Ore., and six grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Brethren church in Fruitland with the Rev. Paul Eller officiating. Interment will be at Park View at New Plymouth. The Shaffer chapel of Payette is in charge of arrangements.
