Rites Held For Earl N. Dibble, State Official

Services for Earl Nelson Dibble, 60, longtime prominent resident of Payette who passed away last Thursday, were held at St. James' Episcopal church at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. John Riley officiating.

Mr. Dibble was stricken with a heart attack while on a Boise street Thursday and passed away a short time later in a Boise hospital. He had been in ill health since suffering an attack in August.

He has served as director of the State Bureau of Business Relations following his appointment by Governor Smylie with the institution of the Department of Commerce and Development, of which the bureau is a part, on July 1.

A veteran of World War I, he has been associated with several businesses in Payette over the years having conducted implement and bee businesses here and was associated once with the Rex Spray company.

In his early years he was active in athletics having competed on champion baseball and basketball teams while at Payette high school and later played on the town baseball team following his return from service.

He joined the tax collector's office at the time it was created in 1947. Previously he had been an auditor for the state liquor dispensary. He had a total of 12 years of service with the state.

Mr. Dibble was born Oct. 30, 1894 in Battle Creek, Mich., and moved with his family to Payette in 1906 from Seattle. He was married in 1917 in Payette to Nelle Keith and he was a veteran of World War I.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Dibble are a son, Don Dibble of Payette, a brother, Jay Dibble of Ontario, Calif. and a grandson.
