PAYETTE - Recitation of the Rosary for Arthur Filler Lattig, 79, Payette, who died Thursday at an Ontario hospital, were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Requiem Mass was celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Payette, by the Rev. Father Patrick Phelan. Interment followed at Riverside.
He was born at Anita, Iowa, Oct. 12, 1893. He grew up in Iowa and played minor league baseball in the Midwest. He served in the Navy during World War I on the battleship Michigan. He came to Payette following the war and was in the grocery business there for 30 years, retiring in 1954. He married Neil M. Steffen, at Weiser March 27, 1921.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, served two terms on the Payette City Council, a member of Veterans of World War I and a 50-year member of John Webster Rhoads American Legion Post No 33, Payette.
Survivors include his wife, a son, Dr. Jerry Lattig, Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Joyce) Schnabel, Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Guy Lattig, Boise, and Dana Lattig, Macksburg, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. H. H. (Millie) Crandall, San Clemente, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
