Family History Centers are branches of the Family History Library located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was founded in 1894 to gather genealogical records and assist members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with their family history and genealogical research. The Family History Library is open to the general public free of charge and the staff are exceptionally helpful. It is a great place to get started or do advanced research. I highly recommend a visit.

I was also told, on very good authority, that many records relating to Payette can be found at the Family History Center in Ontario, Malheur County, Oregon, just across the river from Payette County. People traveled back and forth so if you can't find the marriage, birth, or other record you are looking for in Payette County, be sure to try Malheur County.

Visit the main Family Search website at familysearch.org to find out more and be sure to click the "Search for Ancestors" link. It is a wonderful way to search for your ancestors. Next click their "census" link. It has one of the best search features for the 1880 United States Census and it also has the 1881 Canadian Census.
